British wizarding currency
Money in the British wizarding world is split into three denominations of coins:
British currency exchange rates
- One galleon is equivalent to 17 sickles
- One sickle is equivalent to 29 knuts
- One galleon is equivalent to 493 knuts.
British to Muggle currency exchange rates
The table below contains approximate exchange rates between wizarding currency, USD, and GBP, as well as approximate purchasing power comparisons between the same. In game, exchange rates may be used for actual conversion between wizarding and Muggle currency. These exchanges are most easily made at wizarding banks, but at GM discretion some parties may happen upon ways to make them in the Muggle world as well. Purchasing power comparisons are provided to give both players and GMs an easier conceptualization of how much a galleon is worth to a wizard.[1]
Wizarding | Currency Denomination | Exchange rate with USD | Exchange rate with GBP | Purchasing power equivalent in USD | Purchasing power equivalent in GBP |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 Galleon | $7.35 | £4.93 | $25.50 | £21.25 | |
1 Sickle | $0.46 | £0.29 | $1.50 | £1.25 | |
1 Knut | $0.02 | £0.01 | $0.05 | £0.04 |
